WIP: Remove Proto Library #1172

Removes the proto library (for now) in order to reduce imports. Not certain this is the right way forward; it may be better to keep the API Clients and View Components separate and keep the nice Proto TS Library.

Work in progress: the following refactors/tests must be completed before merge:

[ ] Split API Client and View Component
[ ] Add Unit tests for API Client
