Every hotot page update freezes the entire X display for a short period #241

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Run hotot, log in, wait.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Whenever hotot updates (text "updated 2 pages on schedule" appears at top of
main window), the entire X display -- *everything* -- freezes for a short
period (a few hundred milliseconds, maybe). This happens even if the hotot
window isn't visible. I'd expect it to not do that, as it's very annoying. It
seems bizarre that hotot should do this, but it only happens when hotot is
running, and it only happens exactly when it shows the "updated" text, so it's
definitely hotot that's doing this somehow.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system and
what Desktop Environment?
0.9.5~hg573 (latest from Ubuntu PPA repo). Ubuntu 10.10, Gnome. Desktop
compositing is enabled.

Please provide any additional information below.
Using nvidia's binary display drivers, if that matters.

Which WM are you using? Compiz, or metacity, or?

And, wonders if this happens when other programs pop a libnotify window...

Compiz. Mostly this is just a default Ubuntu setup, I haven't done anything
special to it (at least not the compositing/rendering parts).

I'm pretty sure it's not related to libnotify popups. The freezes happen "on
schedule" whether or not there's any new messages/popups, popups aren't shown
until a little bit after that anyway, and the popups shown when hotot starts
doesn't cause any freeeze. Also, I haven't seen anything else that pops up
libnotify windows cause this problem (eg Rhythmbox pops them up all the time,
and has never caused a freeze).
