Hi @KZNcode Thanks for asking,
Page Builder by Magento is an awesome tool, no doubt about it, but as a web administrator who - without the technical technique, might be hard to use it and expect the output on the storefront as imagination
Therefore, this project on the purpose to solve it, make it easy to use and manage in a delight way, for example, you can update the content, then revert, control elements/history, the layer by layer same as Photoshop did,
Moreover, you can build your page on multiple devices, such as desktops, tablets, and mobile, the preview will be the same as what you really seeing in the editor
If these are not surprising to you, I suggest you should give it a try really quick, it's will be fast to install, and no conflict within your theme at all
Nice! The revision/history control is definitely a dope feature--entire magento admin would be benefit from this (i.e. the ability to see and revert admin section changes, would definitely be a huge plus for tracking database changes; what git can't do.)

The multiple device feature is already available via "Page Builder - Columns Extension": https://github.com/magento-devdocs/pagebuilder-examples/tree/master/Columns/Extension
Example:
This is why I asked why not just extend it as here:

Seeing that you guys work for Adobe at an official capacity, can you guys briefly explain the reasoning of creating a separate project instead of extending the Magento official one: https://github.com/magento/magento2-page-builder
