Some small Google Assistant hurdles #2191

Now I know this kind of beats the purpose of this project but the goal for me was to mainly minimize Google's influence and not eradicate it until I have a good replacement for it. It's completely understandable for me that the Hey Google feature does not work unless actively called for. But I'm still too invested in the Google Home automation space.

I've seen these exact bugs before which I believe was with MindTheGapps on my last phone a Poco X3 running LineageOS at the time. I think I solved this issue last time by building MindTheGapps manually from the Gitlab repo. But I also switched to CRDroid so I cannot say for sure which one contributed to the fix with 100% certainty.

Is this a known problem or an inherent side effect of the current way Play Services are implemented?

This bug still persists.

For me specifically, Google Assistant is no longer recognized as the default assistant even though it is selected as such in settings after each reboot.

This also appears to effect Android Auto's handsfree feature, upon pressing the hands free button on my steering wheel or when pressing the microphone icon on the Android Auto screen, AA chimes twice (instead of once and then listening) and does no listen / pick up on input.

Going into the settings and unselecting Google Assistant as the default and then reselecting it fixes both issues until the next reboot.
