Disabling "Require device unlock for NFC" setting has no effect #3438

Reading NFC tags seems to only work with the phone unlocked regardless of the setting. I tried with two different tags used for different apps. Trying to read a tag while the screen is on but still locked also has no effect.

I believe this behaviour has changed recently but I am not certain as I have used NFC quite rarely.

Pixel 6, build 2024040900.

I note that the “upstream” tag has been applied to this issue and also that some google searching indeed indicates that this is an upstream android issue and not a GrapheneOS issue.

Wondering if it’s possible to fix it downstream here though. Having to unlock the phone to trigger automations with NFC tags takes away more than half of the usefulness of those tags.
