Antitrust Policy

Linux Foundation meetings involve participation by industry competitors, and it is the intention of the Linux Foundation to conduct all of its activities in accordance with applicable antitrust and competition laws. It is therefore extremely important that attendees adhere to meeting agendas, and be aware of, and not participate in, any activities that are prohibited under applicable US state, federal or foreign antitrust and competition laws.

Examples of types of actions that are prohibited at Linux Foundation meetings and in connection with Linux Foundation activities are described in the Linux Foundation Antitrust Policy available at http://www.linuxfoundation.org/antitrust-policy. If you have questions about these matters, please contact your company counsel, or if you are a member of the Linux Foundation, feel free to contact Andrew Updegrove of the firm of Gesmer Updegrove LLP, which provides legal counsel to the Linux Foundation.

Policy Summit

Open Sustainability Policy Summit, May 2-3,

LF Energy has partnered with Johns Hopkins University to launch the Open Sustainability Policy Summit at the JHU Bloomberg Center in Washington, DC. This brand-new event will gather lawmakers, policymakers, electric utilities, automakers, technology vendors, researchers, and end users of energy to discuss the challenges and opportunities for an open-source model of building both technology and standards to accelerate the energy transition. The summit will focus on how policy and regulation can support this collaborative approach while ensuring communities are diverse and inclusive and that the benefits of this transition are shared equitably.

Join Discussion - GSF / British Computer Society's (BCS) Alex discusses the British Computer Society's (BCS) three parts: BTS, Academy, and Learning Services. BCS focuses on promoting technology and sustainability through education and training.

Promoting sustainability in the technology industry. Alex outlines the organization collaborates with various stakeholders, such as government, industry, and the public sector, to establish policies and standards for sustainable software development. The BCSs is not a lobbying group; rather, it's a community of professionals from diverse sectors and levels who come together to define good practice in their field. The BCSs is funded by membership fees from firms like IBM, Deloitte, and Touche, and their employees are encouraged to join the BCSs. Alex explains that BCS provides education and training to promote technology, including women in technology and digital inclusion. Alex invites feedback on how BCS can work with the Linux Foundation to share ideas and collaborate on software development.

Collaboration between two organizations in the software development industry. The group discuss collaboration opportunities between organizations. BCSs seek to align software development with design thinking workshops. The UK government is being asked to establish a standard for software education. Alex suggests developing a more comprehensive green software exam with the Green Software Foundation. The foundation could potentially explore partnering with the organization to pilot and refine the exam.

Standards for carbon intensity and open source training. Chris brought up the topic of carbon intensity spec being accepted as an ISO standard. He highlighted that it's an open standard and has potential for collaboration with complementary organizations. Sean updated the group on their progress and mentioned version 1.1 of the standard. He stressed the need for further adoption. Sean explained why an MOU is the best path forward for IBM and the GSF. Lisa suggested sending a proposal to Alex based on the AI notes and next steps. Sean and Tim had a discussion about a possible conflict of interest in contributing to open-source training while selling training courses. Namrata and Sean discussed ways to improve their training by leveraging each other's work and experience.

Sustainability, certification, and policy manual project. Sean outlined that he's currently looking into a certification process for the SCI, which will validate its adoption by GSF. During a recent conversation, Sean and Lisa discussed several time-sensitive items, including an LOI for AI research, and a MOU for sustainable IT. They also discussed the approval process for a document with Sanjay. Thomas has been tasked with discussing the document with Sanjay, and Lisa will check in with Tamara to ensure everything runs smoothly. Lisa and Sean also discussed the policy manual project and the upcoming roundtable meeting with stakeholders.

Reducing the scope of the workshop for the policy manual. Chris seeks to narrow the scope of the policy working group to focus on key issues. Lisa mentioned two levels of policy work: keeping track of upcoming legislation and a more collaborative workshop approach. Lisa suggests bringing in another working group, such as the community working group, to support the workshop version. Members agree with Chris and Michael on the project approach.

Tracking upcoming legislation's impact on tech org. Organizations are unclear on implementing new policies, leading to confusion and potential dysregulation. Tim proposes validating regulation compliance with Accenture, addressing differing burdens for global vs. smaller organisations. The group discusses tracking and implementing upcoming legislation.
