Simplified Chinese Translation Update #365

Greetings from the team at Tsinghua University, China! We're excited to submit complete translation files for OpenLCA in Simplified Chinese. Here are some key points to note:

  1. The current Chinese language (zh) interface in OpenLCA is tailored for Traditional Chinese, primarily used in Taiwan. While both Simplified and Traditional Chinese are mutually intelligible, they differ in certain aspects, such as encoding and vocabulary. Hence, we have labeled our submission with the suffix _zh_cn (China), in alignment with the international standards ISO 639-1 and ISO 3166-1. Accordingly, the existing files ending with _zh could be renamed to _zh_tw.

  2. We propose a minor modification in the language selection interface. It would be more user-friendly to have two distinct options: 'Simplified Chinese' and 'Traditional Chinese', corresponding to the _zh_cn and _zh_tw translation files, respectively.

  3. To ensure compatibility within OpenLCA interfaces, especially when dealing with files in multiple languages, we suggest that both Simplified and Traditional Chinese settings prioritize displaying 'zh'. This adherence to the ILCD standard's Chinese encoding will enhance OpenLCA's compatibility. 4. Lastly, we've noticed some UI elements currently lack translation support. We are committed to providing updates and staying in sync with any new changes introduced in OpenLCA.

Thank you for considering our contribution to OpenLCA. We believe these updates will significantly enhance the user experience for Chinese-speaking users.
