df, rm, ... can all be replaces by python commands. Maybe there is even a
librsync for python?

cool, i'll use that.  but as for chmod/rm/rsync, i specifically want them as 
external
commands, so the user can see exactly what the program is doing.  (via output 
pane,
or the history browser)
