Cannot use External Hard drive for backup

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start the application with python flyback.py

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
This is the message that appears on the terminal:
external_storage_location_type None

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Ubuntu 9.04

Please provide any additional information below.

I would like to use my external hard drive as by backup drive but only my
/home directory which exists on a separate partition shows up on "use
attached drive" and trying to navigate to my external hd through "/media"
produces the same error as above

Same problem here. In addition, pressing the "OK" button after changing 
preferences
has no effect.
