We should have our own discussion forum in order to communicate more
efficiently and separate dev from user discussion.
I've set up as a preventive measure :
http://groups.google.com/group/gnome-global-menu
But we might as well use a new thread on ubuntuforums (or ask for a sub
forum for all projects aiming at modifying GNOME into a document centric
desktop (eg: file chooser, etc)

The drawback is that you cant modify posts in Google Groups, so no way to
aggregate into at the beginning of the thread (unlike in Ubuntufroums), and
a closed system with no evolutions possible.

I'll agree to set the discussion group at ubuntuforums. Editing is very 
convenient
thought it potentially will cause trouble. Would you like to set it up then?

Google is not a good pretty company that aims to help our business. They have 
their
business and they have gone public for years. :-)

Ok, now we have the revisions google group.
Regarding the more user-friendly forum, here's the howto to request a user 
forum on
ubuntuforums.org

The request must be made by rainwoodman himself (as the lead dev)
Here's a draft post. My proposed name sucks and we have to find somebody with 
enough
time to moderate. 

1. Gnome Document Centric Tweaks
2. We aim to develop tweaks to make Gnome a more document centric desktop. This
includes for the moment a Global Menu Applet (like Etoilé, GnuStep or MacOS), 
but
more will come.
3. rainwoodman (because the main dev must do the request himself) and somebody 
with a
lot of available time to moderate (I sadly can't)
4. OK :-)

We would also like to move the original thread
(http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=241868) to this subforum (if it 
doesn't
cause any problem, it would also be nice to be able to split apart the user and

Choosing the name is a problem.
The name "Gnome Document Centric Tweaks" represents our purpose. 

but it won't lead users to our forum from search engines. Neither is "Global 
Menu".
nobody will search these keywords. The best name to attract users will be "Mac 
Menu",
but I tend to avoid the word "Mac" since it might introduce troubles in the 
future.

Another thing is, Shall we choose such a big name at the very beginning? I am 
not
sure how much more will come beside the global menu.

GNOMENU is a good name for the library: libgnomenu. shorter, easier to 
remember, and
saves me from typos!

If we restrict ourselves to the menu enhancement of gnome, then gnomenu is a 
very
suitable name. I really don't think there is enough time for me to handle it if 
the
forum needs more than the menu enhancement.

Clearly no progress here...
Was wondering whether we could PM a forum mod to ask them to speed the process 
(might
have to be accepted by a council)

I was also thinking about a thing or two: perhaps widening the sub forum scope 
to
Mac-like topics (like Infra_Red_Dude's Mac4Lin project).
I'm just afraid it could attract Apple's lawyers and harm Ubuntuforums as a 
whole.

A subforum for Mac discussion also exists and another one about customization 
and tweaks.

You should try another forum admin, ubuntu-geek hasn't be active for a long 
time.
bapoumba is a french mod and she's cool, btw she's not an admin. active admins 
are
matthew, KiwiNZ, jdong, Vorian.

The request should be made by the dev, but can be co-signed, if needed I'll 
sign.

Another thing, there is a submission for the old macmenu on gnomefiles which
redirects to the macmenu (huge) thread on ubuuntuforums.
I think it could be also a good idea to post global-menu on gnomefiles.org

I don't quite understand it. Anyhow we can start a new thread, and ask them to

I think opening a new thread is probably enough (the project also have a site 
here
and maintain a subforum could be a lot of work).
I can after the new thread opening ask a mod that I know a bit to close the old
thread or, at least, edit the first post to point people to the new thread.
Let me know if you want me to ask.

As a backup solution, we may ask for a subforum on forum.compiz-fusion.org.
Otherwise, I'm all for a thread which would be called Gnomenu-The Document 
Centric
Menu for Gnome or whatever.

Also note that GoogleSites is now available for everybody. We may integrate 
Google
Sites and Google Groups with the project website.

Hum, I begin worrying about ending up with a forum with nobody in it(there are 
so
many EMPTY forum with only 1 or two posts from the dev); perhaps keeping the 
old mac
menu thread is better because it is easy to find; if a new thread for ubuntu is
needed, we should at least stay in ubuntu forums. 
Think about the traffice in the mail-list. It is almost null exept the svn 
commits.
An empty mail-list is OK, but an empty forum will be very very depressing, 
isn't it?

We can always track the Bugs through the googlecode issue system, and write 
documents
at the wiki.

I m ok for a new thread in ubuntu forums (which was my first idea).

A forum on compiz forum looks like out of topic.

Ubuntu is a good vector for communicate, and if we open a new thread I'll give 
an
effort to have the old one closed. If it isn't possible to close the old 
thread, I'll
try to post the link to the new thread after every new post in the old thread.
