Nautilus title is CD/DVD Creator in gnome 2.26

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to see "File Browser" but I see "CD/DVD Creator" as title of
Nautilus instead.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Version 0.7.3~svn2333~jaunty1 on Ubuntu Jaunty 64 bit with Gnome 2.26.0

This bug got no attention so far, so a little info from my side.
Globalmenu reads the Gnome Main Menu Application List to assigned Names to the
running Applications. However since jaunty the nautilus-cd-creator got replaced 
by
it's successor which is basically the same thing but shares it's code base with
Brasero instead. However someone thought it might be a good Idea to have an 
Entry in
the Main Menu which calls Nautilus with parameters, so you get the burn:/// 
window.
This Item is in Accessories and called CD/DVD Creator. Therefore I assume 
Globalmenu
thinks this is the right entry for Nautilus and therefore set's CD/DVD Creator 
as
Application Name for Global Menu instread of File Browser.

On a Side Note: I think there is another related problem, i.e. with synaptic 
which is
not translated into the Title "Synaptic Package Manager". First the menu item is
located in System -> Administration, so not in the default place Application 
where
the other apps are. And: it is called with gksu.

Well, I think the last behavior you described is something else, because if for
instance you click in the desktop after starting Synaptic (the title in 
globalmenu
changes to "Desktop") and then click on Synaptic again, then the title in 
globalmenu
is correct stating that "Synaptic Package Manager" is open!

And if you open Login Window, the name instantly changes to the correct name 
"Login
Window Preferences" though it is started as well with gksudo.

The same trick can not be repeated with the File manager (Nautilus), so I think 
it is
a different bug. The only thing that I'm not too sure about is whether it is 
really a
bug of GlobalMenu, because this could be a bug in Jaunty as well.

I'm not sure if the synaptic issue it is not related to the menu entries, but 
you may
be right. And yes, I noticed as well that if you go to desktop and back the
Application Name is indeed changing to Synaptic Package Manager.

Anyway, back to the original report of yours. IMHO, the bug is in global menu 
because
it does not detect right if it is the cd burner window or any other nautilus 
window,
therefore the wrong name is chosen. The real question would be "Can globalmanu
distinguish between the CD/DVD Burner and a normal Nautilus Window?" 

The Application Name "File Browser" is by the way also from the menu, but not
displayed by default. Look into the menu editor unter System Tools - it's 
there. I
assume as the application called is both times natulus and C comes before F 
"CD/DVD
Burner" is chosen instead of "File Browser"

btw. Workaround: Remove the CD/DVD Creator from your Menu with the menu editor.

I see on my 64 bit Jaunty with version 0.7.4-1ubuntu1~ppa1 the title "File 
Manager"
which is correct!
On my 32 bit system (same package version) not though. It still shows the CD/DVD
Creator label.

Well I see this as a major problem with platform. Gnome Do is suffering with 
similar
problems since it uses same approach (duplicity anyway) to assigning 
names/icons to
running applications. That is searching through desktop entries.

I think this is wrong approach and window titles should be used intead. Correct 
me if
there are some problems with this. The only prob. I see is various usage of 
window
titles, from application name, through name of opened document, or web page 
title, or
opened path in Nautilus.

It could be enough to simply establish convention here to name windows as 
follows

[Document name/page title/path/..] - [Application name]

Now any application messing with windows such as Global Menu, Gnome Do (docky) 
or any
other utility, can be sure that second portion of window name, after ' - ' is 
actual
name of running application. simple as that. Firefox is already there, but 
there is
problem with mussing GtkMenu. Now force Nautilus developers and others to 
follow this
convention. Specify it somewhere on Gnome wiki

I have this problem as well on Gnome 2.26.1 32bit. The CD/DVD Creator is in 
place of
the File Browser.

Downloaded globalmenu 0.7.5 through PPA.

Best hack to fix this was to replace the CD/DVD Creator's run command with 
"gvfs-
open burn:///". This will keep the CD/DVD Creator shortcut working without 
affecting 
globalmenu.

Rigk-click on your main menu item and select "Edit Menus" or Alt+f2 and type
"alacarte" (without quotes) the rest should be straight forwards.

OMG! Thanks. Just edited the "Files" entry under "Accessories" and then removed 
the docky shortcut and repinned a new one. Worked great.
