Determine when calls need to/will go through to an actual TSubject

How important is it that a call to the property getters and setters actually goes through to a base object?

given a system where we keep one actual TSubject instance current with all calls:

• what kind of side effects can we tolerate? what do we do about refs to this ? (write a getThis() method?)
• can you fire an event?
