[Idea] Add an config for EXP multiplier #268

Nowadays Ars magica barely stand a chance against other mods, which offer the same, or more for less the price of effort. Like, who would use the gateway if you can use the teleporter from Rftools? Very few. Thats why, i came up with an idea of experience multiplier. It might be a float between 0.5 and 10. 0.5 for those who like challenges, 1 for those who play with only ars magica or with very few other mods, and bigger values for the lazy or those that are feeling that its underpowered. I think that this feature would be simple to add, heck i even tried adding it myself (fail big time). For experience i mean magic experience. It is kinda boring to dig 40 blocks of dirt with touch-dig to get some blue points. Cheers

I think comparing anything to RF Tools is a bit unfair, it in general does more for less than... most things.

that said, especially later on the xp gain does become tedious.

XP gain later game really isn't bad imo. If you do the right things that is. Need xp boost imbuement on the chestpiece armor, and you can basically never take Affinity Boosts

The problem with your comparison, Carpio, is RFTools and Ars Magica are 2 entirely different genres of mods, one is magic, one is a science/technical mod. more specifically, your comparison has no points toward getting your point across, you bash the gateway then talk about something entirely different?

regardless, while yes it would be nice, i don't think im going to be adding this in specifically because, it's not that difficult, the Armor Imbuement table has an XP Boost imbue that you can get to further speed up said grind. while yes there are some things that are underpowered, im not here to accomodate for other mod's tools and weapons, that would be an absurd thing to do, might as well buff everything beyond Draconic Evolution at this point then, one shot the ender dragon, no matter the HP!

"All mod's should only attempt to balance themselves, within themselves and vanilla. Balancing and tweaking should be left to modpack authors and curators"

Also, the thought of Am2 being underpowered compared to other mods is laughable. At base 1 damage modifier, it's got the best damage sources in the game. Nearly the best mining tools in the game, the cheapest repair and smelting system in the game. The only thing it doesn't really do cheap and easily is Gateways and automation. Its kind of like asking Am2 to make the other mods irrelevant and have Am2 take care of everything

While I agree comparing to things like rftools, or the ever overpowered draconian evolution is unfair, the problem is, even with more reasonable mods in your pack if you're not focusing on Ars Magica you're likely to have difficulty progressing.

A lot of the progression in those mods can be automated in a way where xp in AM2 cannot. One can thus make progress in most of those mods at the same time.

Personally, AM2 is one of my favorite mods, and I will focus on it, but playing on a pack with friends if they ficus on a couple techy mods their progress compounds while mine remains linear, at best.

Well, can you at least point me what line of code is responsible for getting EXP? I think i am competent enought to add an multiplying operator by 3 to the float that represents the exp value, then compile it and use personally with my friend. Or am i not? +xenxero1 Good point on the tweaking. But the Ars magica does not offer the opportunity to do so. Modpack creators know this, and its one of the reasons you barely see Ars magica in FTB packs, even in FTB unstable.

TheIcyOne commented 7 years ago

Pretty sure the primary reason AM2 isn't used in packs is because it is still pretty unstable ;)

Growlith1223 commented 7 years ago

that is not the reason at all, Carpio. the reason is because it is still unstable. I may add the experience option, i may not, im not putting this on priority however, so don't expect it anytime soon, if i do ofcourse.
