It seems (to me at least) that things like

* Marking repository for GC
* Backups
* Statistics/performance monitoring
* Chasing references

and more tend to rely on command-line (topaz)/scripts where a nice gui could
easily help.

Since running remotely on VMWare I was thinking along the lines of the
VMWare Infrastructure Client as inspiration.

As Dale has suggested, perhaps a Seaside-based management UI would be good. 
Web-based 
availability and all, could be promising!
