random problem with the audio garbling then clearing up #37

I am using version 2011.1214 and at random times the audio will garble  can 
happen at random times in the day but only lasts a few minutes, 2 to 5 minutes 
and clears up.  I can disconnect and reconnect the encoder without clearing up 
the problem, but I can restart ed-cast and it will clear up.  I thought the 
problem might be on my computer, but this week I installed another computer and 
I am transmitting using both computer and the problem has migrated to the other 
computer as well.  i also thought it might be temporary bandwidth glitches, but 
still not sure, have you ruin into this problem and or solution before?

Happens here too. On two pcs. they are both quite low end though, perhaps it 
has to do with available resources?

Are you using standalone or DSP version of BASS. In the case of the latter, is 
it in DSP or soundcard "mode"

Also Im only monitoring the AAC streams, dont know if it happens in mp3 too.

I use ASIO version exclusively and extensively and have never run into this 
issue. The BASS library used in the non ASIO version has had issues in the 
past, but unfortunately, issues with it are beyond my control.

I will do some testing over the next few days with the standalone version to 
see if I can duplicate this issue.

One other question. Can you tell me what windows you are running, XP/Vista/7, 
32bit/64bit, and also what soundcard you are using.

In answer to your AAC vs MP3 streams. Do you mean AAC or HE-AAC? If the latter, 
which dll are you using for HE-AAC?

Im running Windows XP on both computers.

Its HE-AAC 128, with the enc_aacplus.dll from winamp 5.6 (Created December 9th 
2010 if that helps)

About the soundcards, on one computer Im running everything through Virtual 
Audio Cable, and on the other I use an EMU 0404 PCI.

The latest enc_aacplus.dll is from winamp 5.61 - dated 18 March 2011 -

However, I'm not convinced it's the encoder causing the issue, next time it 
happens is it possible to check the mp3 stream. If it's the input side that's 
causing the issue, both streams should have the same issue at the same time.

I had this problem only with the latest version , I went back a version to
the November release and solved my problem.  Sound card is not an issue, it
happens with the motherboard, onboard sound, a generic windows seven
compatible sound card, a SoundBlaster card and a behrenger USB RCA input
output sound device.  I noticed the ridiculously high CPU usage also using
this version.

Just had this isssue on a  Windows 7 Laptop had to go back to Edcast 
standalone3.2 from version 3.33 (standalone) because of the garbled Sound Issue 
This still happened after changing the lame_enc.dll at least 4 times. At first 
i thought it was dodgy Mp3 files. But nope Its was Edcast 3.33 all along.

Its a pity really because i liked the Limiter in that version.

I still havent tried the ASIO edcast, but I can easily reproduce this bug by 
limiting the available bandwidth to less than edcast needs. If I let the 
bandwidth limited for more than few seconds, even after I restore the bandwidth 
to its normal levels, the bug doesnt go away, and edcast needs to be restarted.

Also forgot to mention that for the bug to happen only one interface needs to 
not have enough bandwidth.

On my configuration I have both internet and lan servers. If the internet slows 
down, both the local servers are affected too.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Edcast is not written to be fault tolerant, 
and despite obvious attempts by the original author, it is far from being truly 
multithreaded. The design of v4 will be both (truly multithreaded and fault 
tolerant).

Also happens without internet connection problems and then clears up, on a 
brand new i7 with Win 7, with an emu 0404 PCI express.

Will try to use ASIO with this one since its supported and report my findings.

Probably a BASS.dll issue then. ASIO doesn't use BASS, so it would be 
interesting if using ASIO version helps

I downgraded to version 3.36.2011.1111  and the problem went away, has not
garbled since and this version is very stable, have not restarted it for
months.
