X8 "crash" - Drift to left #364

What steps will reproduce the problem?

Hello everyone!
Today I had a problem with my heavy X8, after flying for a while, with some
test with Loiter and RTL, during an "almost hovering" at high altitude the
quad has started to drift left alone, exponentially.
In that situation I tried quickly to see if I still had all the commands, and
in fact there were, I could not just keep it straight.
I got to a point that, to fit almost straight i put all “ALE to right”, and
in that situation, however, continued to move while I landed too far, and I
could not place it gently on the ground.
Damage: a broken arm and I think only a few bearings of the two engines in that
arm, so little damage, although I have to take it apart to fix it completely.
I leave the log, hoping someone can tell me what happened, I still believe a
software problem.
The version of the software: AC is 2.4.1, revision “ea065e8f886d”.

Marco

Actually, this happened to me too.
I don't know if it was an impression because of perspective (the copter was
rising faster) but my hexa started to drift away slowly more and more. I was
quite high and everything happened so fast that I didn't have time to land it
safely. I think mine was drifting left also. I reached the right limit of my
transmitter then I tried to switch to loiter and it suddently increased its
going away speed (which makes me think about a software problem) and eventually
slowly flipped and dropped crazy fast 200 meters away. Maybe it was vibrations
annoying the IMU (although I have foam and filter pads soldered), who knows...
my hexa is gone (frame and motors). Attached is the log. I spent a lot of time
on this but cannot figure out what went wrong.
Also, during the drifting away process, the camera (pitch compensated) that was
pointing the horizon moved and pointed the ground (without any input).
I was using 2.0.55

Augusto

PS: Marco, we had the same problem in less than 100 km distance! (I live in
Rolo (RE))

Marco,
Is this the "leans problem" that is now mostly resolved in 2.5.3?
     Can we close this problem?
