Hex drifted away and could not return, lost and cannot find #395

Hexacopter
What steps will reproduce the problem?
I was in stabilize mode and no wind, calm. I had flown several flights before,
however I just had it working for only about 1 week. Most of the flights I kept
is close, within 25-50 feet.
On ly last flight the Hex was about 75 feet away and 50 feet high and I tried
to bring it back and it would start to come back a little but then would stop.
Let go of the command stick and it would go further away. I tried all different
stick commands to bring it back and it seemed to be getting further and further
away. Working with it in this way it finally got out of sight and I could not
see it anymore. There is a river about 1/2 mile away and I'm sure that's where
it is.

When it was flying it seemed to be flying very level, but it just seemed like
the commands I would give it were in the right direction, but with the stick
all the way in the direction to bring it back was not enough.
I just bought my second one and I don't want this to happen again.
I did not have RTL set up yet, I believe if I would have and engaged it that
would have brought it home, not sure though. Hope there is help, thanks.....Don

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

Please provide any additional information below.

Sorry for your loss, Don, were you flying in simple mode at all? I also had a
fly away but the quad had rotated in flight, I got disoriented and when I
thought I was bringing it back was actually sending it away. I cut power and
crash landed about 300ft away, luckily no damage!

No I was not in simple mode, I have learned a lot from that experience by
reading several other comments that it seems this is a pretty common
problem....Don

I'm going to close this problem if that's ok. Not underestimating the loss of
your hex, no disrepect. Just don't know what else to do with this issue in the
absence of more data or logs or something.
