Thanks for opening this issue, actually!
I tried moving to gitlab before, but the truth is that I receive less bug reports and pull requests from there, so I preferred to have my code hosted on github mainly.
For the time being I'll be removing the french translation file so user experience is better, but I'd like to invite you (if possible) to contribute in POEditor to do the french translation! Afaik an account is not nescessary, only e-mail adress
If we remember correctly, we have tried to translate on GNOME's platform, but we have not ever been given access. Perhaps Weblate is a good solution.
If a translation is horrible, why not just leave it until it gets improved by someone else. Removing a translations, however bad, seems like a backwards step.

Interesting, I'll look forward to migrating to Weblate.

Afaik, the translation is still accessible to poeditor.com, I just removed the file and compilation to not worsen yhe User Experiencr, but thank you for your input!
Sorry if it sounds harsh, I don't want to be mean with anyone, but really it is a complete mess, it clearly haven't been made by a French speaker.
I'd suggest moving the application to https://gitlab.gnome.org/World and ask to join https://l10n.gnome.org/ so the community can translate it. See https://wiki.gnome.org/TranslationProject for more information.
