Until I or someone, since the developer has gone missing, come up with something else: These are the only fixes for now:

This will work if you had a prior working super-NWT app, that is prior to 1/1. Fool the device into thinking it is an earlier date. This is a Non-Root fix:

Go into ‘Settings’ - ‘Date/Time’ 1) Uncheck ‘Automatc date & time’ 2) Set date dec 22 2014 or something a. (or another date… It’ll give you a few days, until I come up with something else)

If you have a rooted device:

Download app: "Jota Text Editor" Use a root explorer like Es File explorer to Then just going into your data/data directory look for com.gem.nwtbiblefree /files/English (2013) / find the file dailyText.xml

1) Copy that file from the data directory to home. 2) change the extension to .txt (dailyText.txt) 3) Then click on the file to open with 'Jota' 4) Do a find and replace all entries "2014" to "2015" 5) then save 6) Rename back to "dailyText.xml" 7) Copy, overwrite back to your data directory, where you found it.

Now should work...

The downloader is busted as well. So you won't be able to refresh files. However if you have a rooted device you might be able to backup from another working device.

I updated the above.. The root "fix" was not correct. Also I'm still working on a "backup and restore" method that could help more people. Rumor has come to me that the developer has awaken as well.

People are reporting to me that the Date/Time fix resets inexplicably, even though the 'Automatic' check in settings is not set in datetime. hmm. It could be that some apps like 'Mail', or another app is resetting the time. I tried to google that one and couldn't find an immediate solution. However, I didn't know the unintended consequences of doing that fix anyway. I'm hoping the developer comes out of the woodwork soon anyway.

In a pinch, when sitting at the meeting and you need it to work: Then change the 'date', as described, it should work for at least those few hours.

I hope the developer also does something soon.

Else I was thinking of trying to recreate the app from scratch using android studio. Maybe not the entire thing, but just the Bible to start.

Thoughts?

See my 'Tried to build' thread, the project is built with Xamarin, Visual Studio, Mono, but solution still reports many missing items. When trying to find these missing items it seems I can't find them all. There are wrappers that the developer did not include. Of course a by scratch solution sounds nice, but it would take a great deal of time.

robertkjr3d commented 9 years ago

It's been removed from the market. It could be that google did it themselves 1) because of low ratings, 2) Because the app is not working 3) Because the developer email is offline.

AErmie commented 9 years ago

That's interesting. Is there any way that we can reach out to someone that knows someone, that knows the Brother? I'd really want to know what's going on. I know it would take a lot to re-create from scratch, but there are many publishers that use/want this app. I know that technically it now violates the terms of agreement on the jw.org website, but it's sorely needed. I even emailed the society with this app as an example to incorporate the same functionality in the official app. What are your thoughts?
