Consistent UI and libraries across activities

Once we have pushed out our initial public beta, we need to decide whether to:

• remove the v7 support library or commit to using it consistently
• use the action bar as a UI element of all activities or remove it consistently

This was initially part of #41 but this does not block release.

The toolbar is going to be used on all activities, and all Activity classes will extend from AppCompatActivity.
