After copying the application CamHolder several times it's possible to run multiple instances. Now, in most cases it's possible to select two different cameras even though it's not deterministic which of the installed cameras.

exactly what I have noticed. doesn't depend from the Camera or USB Port. Can switch between both Cameras with Skype without any problem.

I can successfully display two cameras at once if I connect those on different USB ports on my MBP. Ekke, can you confirm this?

ekke commented 12 years ago

of course I have connected them to different USB ports - one port for 2 cams won't work ;-) have tried on iMac and on MBP and didn't work

I did several experiments with various USB-Hubs, Cameras, etc. On my MBP 15", latest generation with only two USB ports it is always(!) possible to display to different LifeCams if there's no other WebCam running. A modified version of the App that's able to run any WebCam revealed that even running the interal FaceTime camera or any other WebCam at a certain resolution on the same port lead to the same problem (black screen) as long as they are running through a USB Hub. The internal FaceTime Cam always seems to make problems when running at the same time.

If you happen to own a MBP with more then two USB ports, could you please try various combinations? Thanks.

Perfect! Anyway, I will implement a multi-document interface #11 anyway to make some things easier...
