Description:

This is a complicated suggestion. Logistics. Right now units consume food present on planet/galaxy (depending on warehouse settings). A unit could have a status addes, in/out of supply. Out of supply starts starving. To be in supply, some conditions must be met:

  1. Be within a given radius of an owned city.
  2. Be within a given radius of a HQ unit (new kind of unit) that is in supply
  3. HQ is in supply if within a bigger given radius of an owned city
  4. HQ has a grace period of staying in supply if out of given radius of point above

Why is it good for the game?:

This would give more depth to the game.

Roads should also be taken into account, maybe instead of having a flat radius around a city you would have suply if you are in a certain amount of movement points away from a city, so you would have worse suply behind mountains, but better next to a road.
