Changing Display from Full Screen to Windows #75

Open BaronGreystone opened 2 years ago

BaronGreystone commented 2 years ago

Description: The G1 build defaults to Full Screen. Changing Presentation to Windowed in DSCFG.EXE has no effect.

Expected behavior: The Presentation option should work. If you set it to Windowed, the game should be windowed.

Actual behavior: The game remains in Full Screen mode regardless of the Presentation setting in DSCFG.EXE.

Game version: EFS G1 with Rebalanced UNIT.DAT

Steps to reproduce:

Install G1 Run DSCFG.EXE Select Presentation and set it to Windowed, then hit Save Start EFS The game is still Full Screen

Additional information:

Framer advised changing an additional setting in DSCFG.EXE, Display. Its default setting is Same as Desktop. Framer states that if you change it to anything else, with Presentation set as Windows, then the game runs as Windowed. I changed mine to 1600 x 900 59Hz, randomly, and started EFS up. It ran in Windowed mode. I won't pretend to understand what all the settings in DSCFG.EXE do, but am entering this incident here at Andrew's request.

As this is a GoG tool, we probably won't be able to change it's behavior.

Since, as I understand, it ran for you fine in Windows mode before we made the changes back to the GoG V1.4 release, it is a situation of not understanding the proper settings to get it to work for you.

You have to set the resolution per the screenshot below:

Note that the display mode resolution can be any valid display mode resolution for your machine and then Presentation must be "Windowed" if you want it to run in a window. Any other setting will run the game full screen.

In releases before B5 (if memory serves) the settings was 1024x768 @70Hz and Windowed and this seemed to work for everyone that has tested the game so far to my knowledge.

We'll leave this open for now in case anyone else has a similar issue with running it in a window.
