In e87862d5a955b3eb0399fb0108694a7db9b8bd53 and a05c9e9fe3a3b32082a0c3d33db432f9d81fcc63, I lowered the precsion on tests involving partial I/O. I'm not sure why these were failing (and only on Mac, not on Linux), but it doesn't feel worth deep investigation for old code we're unlikely to use again. Anyway, leaving this note here as a reminder to eventually fix that or deprecate the code.
