Here: https://www.hl7.org/fhir/extension-patient-religion.html That one is even using the same valueset as the Austrian CDA Guidelines.

concerning valueSets - not quite, ELGA is using additional values for religion in the CDA guidelines During the TC FHIR call on July 2nd we were asked to add them to our profile. Link to the ELGA_ReligiousAffiliation: https://termpub.gesundheit.gv.at/TermBrowser/gui/main/main.zul?loadType=ValueSet&loadName=ELGA_ReligiousAffiliation

Discussed on TC FHIR Call September 10th: Concerning the extension for religion the the available value sets we have the following alternatives:

  1. Use the official extension from HL7: https://www.hl7.org/fhir/extension-patient-religion.html Problem: this one has a specific binding to an HL7 value set for religion, see also https://www.hl7.org/fhir/v3/ReligiousAffiliation/vs.html, the display name are in English and the code has four digits

  2. Create an own extension and use the Austrian specific value set (used in ELGA and Austrian CDA Guidelines ) for religion: https://termpub.gesundheit.gv.at/TermBrowser/gui/main/main.zul?loadType=ValueSet&loadName=ELGA_ReligiousAffiliation, the display names are in German and the code has three digits

  3. Use the official extension from HL7 and create a concept map, in order to have a mapping between the HL7 and the Austrian value set

  4. the other way around - create an own extension and a concept map, in order to have a mapping between the Austrian and the HL7 value set

We made a version 4b. defining an new extension derived from the hl7 (have to check it that is really valid) and specify tee terminology binding to include the hl7 religion value set and the swiss religion definition as a CodeableConcept. This allows to have the swiss local code and the hl7 international code transmitted both. We included a concept map to map from the swiss to the hl7 international value set when possible, see http://build.fhir.org/ig/hl7ch/ch-core/branches/master/ConceptMap-religion-ech11-to-fhir.html. Happy to discuss this at the WGM!
