I addressed the remarks concerning SDN, including adding an item in the roadmap. Check by others is welcome!

I'm still waiting the answer from Romain and Hannah about references to "next-generation identity federation", reason why this isssue is marked WIP. But no problem to merge it if you prefer and we can address the last point in another PR.

hi all - since we have 3 prs that will all conflict, I propose to merge this one. It looks to be ready to go (and is simple)
