Translate content to Russian #587

Open tunetheweb opened 4 years ago

tunetheweb commented 4 years ago

These are the core templates - without which we cannot release any translated chapters. They are in the language specific templates directory:

2022

2021

2020

2019

These are the chapters to be translated, in rough order of popularity. They exist in the content directory:

2022

2021

2020

2019

Additionally the following pages need translated too in the language specific templates directory, but less important than core templates and chapters:

Please include "Makes progress on #587 " in all pull requests so a link is created from the PR to this issue.

There is no need to translate the chapters HTML pages in src/templates/en/2019/chapters/ nor the src/templates/en/2019/ebook.html file as they are generated off the markdown combined with the above templates.

Common notes for writing consistency are here: https://github.com/HTTPArchive/almanac.httparchive.org/wiki/Translators'-Guide. Feel free to edit that and/or add Russian-specific extras by editing this comment.

Russian specific extra advice:

I've created a blank Translators' Guide wiki page. @tunetheweb it'd be great to consolidate any other translation advice there.

Done!

There's been no progress on this since the issue was opened so am going to close this. We can reopen if we get translators.

@Pavel-Evdokimov let us know if you plan on actioning this and want to re-open it?

@dtikhonov I got your response to the 2021 interest form that you'd like to join the team and saw (in addition to your technical qualifications) that you'd be interested in translating content into Russian. This is the relevant issue where you can coordinate with @lex111 and @Pavel-Evdokimov to get up to speed and see what the current task list is. @tunetheweb coordinates all of the translations and has deep knowledge of our code base, so he can answer any questions you may have. Welcome! I'll also be reaching out closer to the 2021 planning stage about coordinating on the content writing. :)

Great, happy to be on board! I tried to claim the 2020 HTTP/2 chapter but I don't believe I possess the permissions to edit the body of the main comment. How would I go about doing that, @tunetheweb ?

tunetheweb commented 3 years ago

Hey @dtikhonov ! Nice to see you on board. Sent you the invite which should allow you to edit and also be assigned issues.

It has been over three months and I haven't made as much progress as I hoped I would by this point. I now realize that I do not have enough time to commit to the translation effort.

I am about one-third of the way through to translating the Compression chapter. I am hoping someone could pick it up and continue on:
