Some of my concerns as a reviewer last year have been around lacking / incomplete stats for WebAssembly; do you think it's something we could explicitly include this year?
It's a fairly mature technology by now, and for many it would be interesting to see and track how Web uses it over time.
@RReverser, I forked this discussion into #877 to keep this thread focused on authors.
Hey Rick - I'd like to author in the next round with areas of expertise in performance, CMS, and PWA. Just let me know where you want me.
Please count me in for JavaScript and PWA.
I'd like to read from Nicole (@stubbornella), Mandy (@mandymichael), Jean-Pierre (@jpvincent), Anna (@afilina), Sara (@SaraSoueidan), Florens (@fvsch), Estelle (@estelle), Cassidy (@cassidoo), Benoit (@BitOne) but I don't know if they're interested and which part, so I'll let them respond if they want to.
I'd be happy to contribute in the area of performance and mobile web. I'm an invited expert in the web performance working group. Would also be happy to participate in peer-reviews.
@mikewest for Cookies if he's interested!
@vitalyfriedman for Design if he's interested!
Wow, always interested :-) @bazzadp
I'm thinking about contributing. Really interested but I think a focus on sustainable design/web might be really great. You already have a lot of relevant indicators in the performance/accessibility/SEO sections (among others). It could be part of the User Experience section. For those not familiar of this subject and reading french, I wrote some stuff about that on my website : https://ldevernay.github.io/green/2020/04/20/audits-ecoconception.html (and it is part of my daily job). If you want, I have loads of ressources about that on my Raindrop : https://raindrop.io/collection/7258547
I'd love to take on parts of media, if possible!
I just found an article I wrote last year about how to use your stats related to the environmental impact of websites : https://ldevernay.github.io/green/2019/11/13/web_almanac.html (sorry, it's written in french too).
I would like @eeeps to write about images density on the Web, if data from httparchive can help discover how many websites send images more than 2dppx, and the impact on weight and performance.
I nominate @simonhearne for third-party chapter 🎉
I'd like to nominate @thefoxis for the Performance chapter
Howdy, folks!
@rviscomi kindly put me down as the author of the JavaScript
chapter. I've been prepping to write that one since the last time.
I'd also like to suggest a new chapter that I can write about Jamstack. Featuring the usage of Next.js, Nuxt, VuePress, and likes. Let me know what you think about that.
I'm also available as a reviewer for the Markup
, Media
, PWA
, and CMS
categories however you see fit.
Hey, everyone! @rviscomi please count me in as the author for the Resource Hints chapter. Also, I'll be able to collaborate as a reviewer for the CMS category.
I would like to nominate Kiran Gupta for SEO section, she has relevant experience in the same and can contribute.
@ahmadawais That sounds interesting. What kind of metrics do you think that chapter would entail?
@ahmadawais @obto @tpiros I forked the Jamstack discussion into #878 to keep this focused on authors.
Count me out this time around (no availability). On a macro level, I encourage you to put a strong focus on diversity and inclusion in the contributors to ensure a broad representation of voices and perspectives.
For accessibility you might want to reach out to @bamadesigner and @rianrietveld to see if there is interest or further recommendation down the accessibility tree.
I'd love to see @ashleyish, @rachellcostello and @dwsmart for SEO. I'll check with a few people where I don't have the Github usernames, too
I would like to contribute as an author for the SEO part and can be a reviewer in the CMS or compression parts.
I'd love to see @iamtrask for cookies, security parts.
I'd love to have a global "web quality" section, maybe by people like Élie Sloïm, Véronique Lapierre or other web quality masters.
For accessibility, I would also enjoy people like Carrie Fisher, Denis Boudreau, or Steeve Faulkner.
Jamie would be interested in the SEO chapter, too, right @fellowhuman1101?
HECK YES! It'd be a solid team for the SEO chapter. I'm in.
I would also like to join in the seo chapter dreamteam if there is room left.

Web quality is a very wide topic and would be great to have all these people contribute. Would it make sense to maybe discuss on that and how to work on that based on the available indicators?
Happy to help on both Resource Hints and Performance ✨ 🌕 ✨
Please count me in for JavaScript and PWA. Thanks!
If they are interested, I'd love to read from:
A11Y @stevefaulkner @SaraSoueidan @ericwbailey @scottaohara @aardrian Markup @AmeliaBR @iandevlin @matuzo @simevidas SEO @aleyda @ipullrank @dsottimano @jroakes CSS @SaraSoueidan @impressivewebs @hankchizljaw @leaverou @chriscoyier @rachelandrew
Also, I'd be happy to help on any of the above.
I'd be happy to work on CSS.
Happy to
Always happy to write about CSS :)
I'd love to write about HTML :)
Thanks for the reco @catalinred :) Would love to contribute to the SEO one if there's still room @rviscomi! Cheers
Happy to contribute for SEO as well!

Thank you very much for the recommendation, @catalinred. I'd also like to recommend @segunolalive and @oluoluoxenfree for accessibility, they've done some really great work in this space.
Thanks for the recommendation @catalinred! I would be happy to contribute on accessibility, but as an over-represented annoying white guy, I would prefer to hear from someone with a broader lived experience than I can muster.
I'd love to contribute to Accessibility! Recommending @marcysutton too if she isn't already on your radar.
Thank you, @ericwbailey, for the nomination. I’d be happy to contribute to Accessibility
also appreciate the mention here, but would like to echo adrian's sentiments and recommend that others be considered before myself. thank you
Happy to!
I have more of a suggestion but I'm not sure where this would fit, but I would love to see more content around internationalisation.
Yess! +1 to @LeaVerou :D Excited to read your thoughts
Hey everyone, super exciting to see the level of enthusiasm here 😄
In order to keep things organized, we just created issues for each of the chapters (see the first comment). So from now on, If you'd like to volunteer for a role or nominate someone, please make a comment in the relevant chapter issue 🎉
I have more of a suggestion but I'm not sure where this would fit, but I would love to see more content around internationalisation.
@obto just making sure you didn't miss this suggestion from @huijing ? @rviscomi and I talked briefly about it before and think it would make interesting analysis - either as a stand along chapter (if there's enough content) or part of another one?
Also @nico3333fr mentioned web quality earlier and @ldevernay mentioned sustainable design earlier too though know less about those topics personally!
We probably do have to limit our chapters at some point so if these have been considered and we've decided not to proceed with them this year then that's fine. Just want to make sure they weren't inadvertently missed as a lot of comments here already (which is great!).
@bazzadp Big thanks for the heads up, had missed a couple of these. We'll make a call on these tomorrow 👍
We're getting a late start this year, but it's time to start planning who will author the 2020 Web Almanac. Leave a comment to nominate someone for a particular chapter. If that person has already been nominated (do a quick Ctrl F), stamp that comment with your 👍. @obto and I will be reaching out to nominees to gauge their interest and select authors.
If you're more comfortable nominating in private, feel free to DM me on Twitter @rick_viscomi.
I want to take a brief detour to acknowledge that this is an extraordinarily stressful time for everyone. We need to take care of ourselves first and foremost and saying "no" to new commitments is perfectly acceptable. Please understand that the person you're nominating may not have the time or energy to contribute this year.
If you're considering becoming an author, please read our Authors' Wiki with more info about the level of commitment.
@HTTPArchive/authors please consider making room for other voices and nominating someone else to carry on your chapter this year. As the most recent subject matter experts to write about these subjects, you're the ones who are in the best position to suggest other experts from the community who would be a great fit to continue the tradition. We should be especially cognizant of the balance of perspectives and nominate people who don't necessarily all look or think alike. What makes the Web Almanac special isn't the stats, but the people who interpret them through their own unique lens. These experts should be a reflection of the web community as a whole, not some bubble within it. If you'd like to work with new authors on chapters you previously wrote, you are strongly encouraged to take on the role of peer reviewer to assist this year's authors with content brainstorming and technical review.
We can use the list of chapters from last year as a starting framework. I'll also be adding new chapters as potential topics for exploration. Reading through these chapters/topics and think about the experts you'd like to see authoring them. If you're interested in authoring a particular chapter, feel free to self-nominate. And if you have an idea for a new chapter, we'd love to hear it.
