Currently, MI:0082 (peptide massfingerprinting ) is a descendant of both:

MI:0396 (predetermined participant)
MI:0427 (identification by mass spectrometry) this seems to be outright wrong - how does one distinguish between de novo identification of a protein and confirmation of the presence of a predetermined protein ?

As far as I can guess, the MI:0082 should be, at least, removed from the predet branch...

Surely PMF only works if you have a known protein sequence to compare your peptide masses against. I thought de novo sequncing could only be done with the additional ionisation step of MS/MS.
