term: dna footprinting - definition has to be revised - (can be invivo or invitro) Alteration in intensity of bands is used to determine the footprint. Protections maybe a decrease in band intensity or a complete disappearance of bands at the same time these sites are often bordered by bands with enhancement of intensities at sites which become available to the cleavage reagent (chemical or enzymatic) due to the binding of the protein to DNA.

This term should have children terms Chemical footprinting with children DMS - dimethylsulphate footprinting PMID: 8238889 KMnO4 footprinting PMID: 8238889 Enzymatic footprinting - DNAse I footprinting PMID: 8238889

term: RNA Suggested child terms snrna: small nuclear RNA (These are involved in telomere interactions and splicing) rrna: ribosomal RNA snorna: Small nucleolar RNA (These are involved in chemical modification of RNA genes e.g. by methylation. These are part of the snurp complexes) sirna: Small interfering or dicer or micro RNA. These can be used to study RNAi. These are re the reverse complement of another gene's mRNA transcript and inhibit the expression of the target gene PMID: 10542148 srprna: SRP RNA are part of the signal recognition particle which is a RNA-protein complex that binds mRNA which are secreted from cells.
