Here's @Shaners draft of a Phoenix for the phoenix quest.
Other than that we don't have any assigned art yet.
@diurnum The feather is cool-looking, but actually it's extremely big! If you look at the HabitRPG art, you'll notice that it's at 3x zoom, so your feather would actually be enormous! Likewise with the ore. Would you be willing to consider remaking it smaller?
@Shaners I'm thinking that for now, all quest item drafts shouldn't exceed the egg/potion boxes, yeah? Just to keep our item system more-or-less consistent?
Yea they shouldn't really be larger than 41x51 at 3x zoom or they'll break the inventory grid we have now.
Actually should fit into 48x51 according to my old CSS file, not sure if the style uses that same size though.

Walk to work challenge once a mounth :
@diurnum Wow, the Ruby and Emerald are great, and I do still like the feather! I especially love the animations.
They do still look quite big to me, though - while they may technically fit the constraints, if you compare them to the size of the eggs or the hatching potions, they're enormous. Any way to make them a little smaller? You can use the eggs and potions as a good side-by-side comparison. The goal shouldn't be to fill up the whole 48 x 51, but rather to have that be the absolute maximum. In this way, the emerald is better than the ruby.
That Trello card is a little out of date - we still haven't finalized what quest items we will need, we have all the food, and for the foreseeable future, pets and clothes won't drop. We've got a quest scroll already, which has replaced the ancient tome.
However, I am really liking your motivation, and as I said, the jewels are well done. Would you be interested in making some other types? Like a sapphire, or some metal?
Keep in mind that the Quest system is still pretty far away, so our constraints are subject to change.
Yea these are too big, lets try to stay under 45 w and 39 h at 3x zoom for most items even though the box is 48x51.
@SlappyBag Would you mind putting this item constraint in the OP? Preferably in bold?
"Items should be under 45 pixels wide and 39 pixels high at 3x zoom. If you're confused, compare your item to the size of the eggs and hatching potions."
You might want to take a look at how emeralds look: They are transparent with a lot of light refraction and reflection going on. They usually don't have pillowly shading. It is hard to pull off in this style. With the sword it looks like you are mixing pixel zooms which shouldn't be done.
Hey @diurnum those look quite good, actually, you're definitely on the right track with those! Go ahead and do the ruby in that size, as well. And I do quite like the new animated fire sword with the fixed fire. @Shaners do we have any weapon size constraints? Ugh we need to make a document with all the proportions for pixel art.
I made a moonstone :D I know it's not on the list, but I made it in case you guys may want it xD (Plus, it's my favorite stone.)
I based the size off of diurnum's gems. I made a smaller version just in case and can animate that one if it's wanted:
Oooh that looks sexy. It's pretty big, but I think it would work out as some sort of item!

Thank you! I can make it smaller if you want? I don't know what sizes things should be so I'm kind of winging it, haha. :) Should it be with or without animation?
Arg :x I used to know this kind of stuff, but lately I have been out of the loop pretty much :x Because of that I don't really know if it can be used or not, but I like it. Somehow I thought it looked really fitting as an egg for a certain project, what do you think @lemoness ? But if you say it is a stone, maybe we should not misuse it ;)
Size wise, I think this would be some kind of item in which case it should have approximately the same amount of pixels as the potions have. And animations are of course always cool! In the worst case one could simply take the first frame, but if they are there, it could be cool in certain cases :)

Ah no worries :) I'd love to contribute more random art, I'm just worried about sizes. I can do a different shape? Maybe an oval instead? Common shapes of them are circles or ovals but I can do something different. Or do one that isn't cut? Or you can use it as an egg, haha. Whatever ya'll want :D
Derp, I just saw this when I scrolled up, "Items should be under 45 pixels wide and 39 pixels high at 3x zoom. If you're confused, compare your item to the size of the eggs and hatching potions."
Good thing I made the smaller one then, haha. I'll try an oval too, just to compare.
:) Yea as far as I know there is still a lot of art in the pipeline, but eventually if quests come I am sure that we will need a LOT of dropped items ^^.
I checked, the bigger one seems to be 36x36 pixels at 3x zoom level so it should be fine. Also I think it should be 45 high and 36 wide actually as the potions are higher than they are wide :x

Oh fun :D I can just keep pumping out random stuff whenever ideas come to me, haha. (Or until I annoy enough people.) I can't wait x3
No bigger than 45x36 at 3x zoom, I can do that :)
Here's the oval one and the smaller one just in case xD
Loving the animation! These all look great, and I think they can absolutely be used in the quest system. We'll definitely keep you posted!!

Thank you :) No worries if you don't end up using anything I make. Supporting the site and making the art is all fun and well enough for me.
Okay guys! We're thinking of starting the Boss Battles soon.... so let's start seeing some ideas for bosses you can battle!
IIRC we were gonna start with the 4 class bosses, then dragon (armored samurai, robed samurai, ninja, gladiator -> then dragon-hunter). Were you there for that convo actually? We had a pretty elaborate setup mapped out
Tyler, that was all for quests - but I thought the boss battles you were talking about were different?? I can't talk right now but that is an important distinction.

The thought was these were bosses you defeat and obtain their gear piece-by-piece. We'll catch up offline soon
I don't get what pixel work needs doing on these threads... that's why I made pets. The rest confuses me. As for bosses, what sizes are you thinking? Same as people? Smaller? Bigger? Pet sizes? I could think of loads of bosses, but I don't know what kind of things would fit your idea.
I think there is some confusion about bosses here too, actually. Probably thinking up creative weapons and shields for classes in the Class thread is more straightforward. However, there is nothing wrong with making Pets! It will just be a bit longer until they are implemented. If that's your passion, follow it!

If I do think of anything I'll bob it in here anyway, but I think I'll work on the shield and weapons - I'm always open for trying new things, and I've never done that before. I'll make a mount for the frogs too. Just not rush it, because I know it's not in a hurry. If I do make anything that can be a boss I won't worry too much about size, but I'll try not to make it huge. Thanks again for the guidance.
fyi, I created a trello card to list and keep track of the Quests pixel art
Cool =)
What do you think about this monster as a new boss ?
(I was trying originally to make a gorilla, but I really messed up the face ^^
I have no idea what that is, but I want to run away from it very quickly hehe.
Fandekasp - Hmm, I'm having trouble reading that as a monster. I like the skull head - can you keep the head and then maybe try for a different, clearer body?
So unfortunately we can't use the class-based bosses right now because of permissions issues, so instead, we are postponing that and putting out a call for cool and interesting monsters unrelated to the class system. Go wild, guys! Be super creative and fun. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with!
fyi, I made a video about gimp: how to reuse existing images to draw a boss.
While it is a very interesting approach, I wonder how applicable this is to habitrpg. As far as I know almost all the art has been made from ground up and it is clearly visible that this is the case. Doing it this way feels very different and to me doesn't really fit to well. I think we should start the policy that whatever is posted on the forum should be posted directly next to an actual player sprite in the correct size, to see if it fits the game or not.

yes, that's what happened with my rock monster above, I don't know yet how to improve it.
I think the video gives lot of good tips to use (eg make the black border), but needs a second part on how to finish the image so that it fits the style :) If a gimp expert is around here, let me know ^^
I made an Orc! Or is it a Goblin? An Orglin...?
Cool, I like the ears on the orc!

@Pandoro Awesome, thanks! I think I might want to lower the head to give him a more hunched look, and possibly make him a pixel or two stockier. Anyone else can feel free to make those edits as well, as time is short for me.
I'm also starting work on a dragon, but I have a question: What orientation should bosses be in? From the side, facing left, like a side-scroller? From the front, like the character sprites? Or maybe even at an angle, like Pokemon? Which is preferred?
@Fandekasp 's Skull-headed Gorilla (Gorillaton? Skurilla?) has a sort of Pokemon-type angled orientation, should we stick with that?
Coyotino, I love the goblin!!! Big thumbs up. Regarding orientation, I think that probably straight-on or angled (mount-style) is best, depending if it is humanoid or not.
@coyotino sorry for the late reply. It seems @lemoness doesn't like that style of monsters, so don't use it as reference to create a new one :P But in general, we have a lot more liberties with the bosses than other pixel arts. No specific orientation has been dictated so far :)
