CR46 (Maintain additional attributes in GIS layer) #75

Open AndyFoy opened 8 years ago

AndyFoy commented 8 years ago
Description

TVERC would like the tool to automatically maintain additional attributes in the GIS layer. Currently only the following attributes are maintained automatically by the HLU Tool:

The following additional fields have been requested:

Note: Any additional fields, other than those above, must be identified before this change is applied.

Proposed Solution

Adapt the HLU Tool so that a limited number of additional fields can be maintained automatically (if present) in the GIS layer when features are updated. The 'Options' interface will be enhanced to list the available fields that can be maintained and allow the user to select which are to be maintained. The selected fields will be maintained if they are present the in active GIS layer. An error will be displayed if the selected fields are not present in the active GIS layer (when the tool is started or when the active GIS layer is switched).

Hi Andy, we're happy for you to develop this although it is not a priority for us.

Yes we will need this.

Sounds potentially useful but again not urgent for us - does this provide particular benefits (i.e. would it therefore be easier to extract priority habitats by querying just the GIS layer directly)?

GrahamHawker commented 8 years ago

Quite often we look at and query the habitat data (our equivalent data under process layer) in MapInfo and this would allow us to quickly and easily do this and also allow people to easily see what the habitat is in the layer in other GIS workspaces without having to start the tool.
