Make LOV entry #10

I would urge you to invest some time in the dissemmination of your very helpful ontology, to increase visibility and usability:

Thank you, Markus, these are very good suggestions. In the mean time, I have discussed them within the team, and we are now willing and planning to realize these. I'll keep you up to date.

Finally found time to work on your raised issues.

Suggest a new entrance for Linked Open Vocabularies

I have just tried to suggest 'http://www.ontology-of-units-of-measure.org/page/om-2' there, but an error is being returned. Could you help me out; what I'm doing wrong?

Follow the metadata guidlines, especially using vann

I aim to make work of this issue next week. I'll keep you up to date.

http://www.ontology-of-units-of-measure.org is missing a link to the whole ontology resource

On that page, 'OM 2: Units of Measure' is listed among other ontologies in the left pane. Do you mean that 'http://www.ontology-of-units-of-measure.org/page/om-2.owl' and the .ttl and .nt versions should be mentioned explicitly there (by these full URI names)?

Couple of thoughts:

  1. you probably have to suggest the actual namespace uri and not the url of the documentation (ncluding trailing separator)
  2. LOV probably tries to obtain the ontology under this URI (to perform certain quality checks) since it cant find the ontology source there, it fails (alas without meaningful exception), but the 403 error points to such an problem (I can't speak to the inner workings of LOV, you have to ask them directly if the problem persists).
  3. considering the quality checks, you probably have to implement the meatadata guidlines first
  4. "Do you mean that 'http://www.ontology-of-units-of-measure.org/page/om-2.owl' and the .ttl and .nt versions should be mentioned explicitly there" You have to at least provide a direct link to the ontology file there (currently one can't even find a link to this github page). Best practice is to provide the ontology file directly under the namespace uri as suggested before. Note: my suggestions in the last post are wrong, since /page/ is not in the namspace uri. It should be http://www.ontology-of-units-of-measure.org/resource/om-2.owl)

Thanks for the hints. Indeed, if after processing the changes it still doesn't work to suggest the ontology, I'll contact the people of LOV.

Very good idea. But be careful regarding naming clashes with the ISO 19156 Observation Model (om). And please let me hint at WIDOCO, which might help with these issues, again (#1).

HajoRijgersberg commented 5 years ago

Good point. But do you mean that the namespace abbreviation 'om' of OM should be changed? I'm afraid I can't do that (I'm so sorry to say this), but I'm afraid of any (unforeseen) consequences, apart from that it has to do with identity of OM.

Dear people, I thought I could manage the metadata quickly, but it appears to take more time. So I'll look for a new moment next week.

Dear people,

It is my honour and pleasure to announce that Bhoomin Pandya has submitted OM to LOV, in a successful way! Please see the above-mentioned issue (https://github.com/HajoRijgersberg/OM/issues/36#). She has also written a nice message about it in Medium: https://link.medium.com/fVXqSdNNo8. Thank you very much, Bhoomin! :)

Best, Hajo
