Weapon Request: Slim weapons #53

Open ghost opened 8 years ago

ghost commented 8 years ago

Issue type: feature request

Description:

Sometimes you just NEED to land a hit without fail, especially in clutch moments of the game; the battle can't, and shouldn't always fall to RNG. That's where weapons like the Slim Sword, Slim Lance, Hatchet (Crossbows will serve this purpose for Warriors since the sub seems to be greatly in favor of that to balance Warriors), and Short Bow come in. They have lower Mt (about half that of Iron weapons) than even Iron weapons, but often have a 95 ~ 100 Hit % stat (except for the Hatchet which is 85 Hit % due to its 1-2 range) and 5% Crit while coming at a price comparable to Iron weapons.

I propose that instead, we add the Ladle, Branch and thick wood Log, as these weapons, as these are superior to slims, and already in the game's source code.

Jokes aside, I definitely support this. I can't tell you the number of times this would have been useful at certain times, but at the same time, I imagine it kind of defeats the purpose of high avoid units, especially ones with low health. give a slim wep to a berserker-type guy? level 20? Absolute wreckage of all who would normally not get hit by him, and the damage from sheer str can screw people over. I'm prolly wrong though.

That's not a bad idea (being totally serious), IF Slim Weapons prove to be too much, we could totally add the joke weapons ("Obtuse Sword", "Laundry Pole" - Lance, and "Frying Pan" - Axe) from the Japanese only DS remake of FE3.They all had 1 Mt and between 90 ~ 100 Hit %, except for the Frying Pan (axe) which had 80 Hit.

They vary between 95 to 100 hit for slim sword and lance, plus most of the users would have low enough Str to make this not to big of an issue, if I'm wrong, we can try the FE3 remake's joke weapons.

Hatchet (which has 85 hit) wasn't featured much perhaps for the exact reason you mentioned about the Berserker being so strong it's low Mt is rendered moot. We could do without it and simply chalk it up as a fair trade-off for using such overpowering units. Removing the Hatchet idea since have Crossbows as a good solution for this with Warriors that the subs seems strongly in favor of.

The main purpose for these weapons is to allow lower level or less accurate unit to have a fair chance at landing a hit, especially against Lords who mostly all have obnoxiously high avoid such as Lyn and Eirika. Likewise, if they're screwed by, or on even footing with, the weapon triangle. From my experiences, it happens enough where unless my unit is higher level or has a weapon triangle advantage, accuracy tends to fall in the range of 60% on average for both me and my opponent, which shouldn't be the case in a 3 level at max discrepancy (granted #47 is probably worsening this) - Maybe avoid is already be too high for some units, idk.

I wonder if -mt could ever be a possibility... this will need testing.

ghost commented 8 years ago

Shouldn't we test the impact Slim Weapons would have as-is before resorting to FE3 joke weapons modified with negative Mt?

HamaIndustries commented 8 years ago

We'll need to ask for opinions on the sub first, than I'll draft a prerelease

ghost commented 8 years ago

I'm hoping they go with it. Meanwhile I'm going to go ahead and add two requests that the sub, or at least active members of the sub, seems favorable about.

@rayrobdod Why was this closed? Did you resolve this, or is this being filed as Won't Fix? If the latter, what's the reason given the community was in favor of it iirc.

rayrobdod commented 6 years ago

I don't remember closing this. I don't know why I closed it.
