From your description, it seems that your Quiver library and backup files were not readable for some reason. Where was your Quiver library stored? iCloud or other cloud drives? Where are the backups stored? My guess is that they are temporarily locked for some reason.
If you right click on one of the backups that didn't work, and "Show Package Contents", maybe that will give some clue. You should see a list of .qvnotebook's. Also, check the file extension and file type.

Today the following occurred in sequence:
I focused on Quiver (it has been running continuously for several weeks) and was able to see the note that I was working on yesterday.
I opened the side drawer and navigated to a different notebook and note. However that note only loaded the title and didn't display any of the contents.
I tried a different note, and the same result. None of my notes would load.
I quit Quiver and reloaded. My quiver library did not load. Instead the default library shows.
I tried to restore from my library, stored on the cloud. Restoring from backup will not allow me to select and open any .qvlibrary file.
I tried to File > Open > Library instead. Again, the finder window will not allow me to select and open any .qvlibrary files.
I restarted my computer, and was met with the same results.
I retried restoring and opening the multiple backup files I have several times and met the same issue.
While typing this note I tried one last time...and it finally worked. Other than the passage of a few minutes there was no difference in my actions.
