Happy seed is a good bootstrapper. Most of us (happy seeders) devoloping software as a service products. Maybe we can think about adding subscriptions and recurring payments with stripe.

I don't know building a gem but i can share my saas product's payment codes if i write.

I think it is not good implemention. Because we need callbacks, state machines, refunds etc. Payola is only mount /purchase page.
