Each being should be able to behave according to an environment.

Environment should have temperature, pressure and atmosphere (gas concentration). Environment could have ground[or liquid solution] (that can share the same atmosphere) but with specific nutrients (comparing to others). Plants could use ground to absorb nutrients.

At specific rates beings should breathe, absorb nutrients, look for nutrients and duplicate cells/reproduce.

Metabolic process could be described as rate, energy and nutrients (needed).

As result they could produce new nutrients or energy.
