Hakefile presumably uses tools we've prepped. menu.lst will include provisions for new devices...

it seems that library builds are more arch-dependent than thought:

not that there's necessarily arch-dependent code (though there is), but the relevant Hakefiles start to get upset when the in-going arch is not as expected
stuff like newlib also requires some arch-specific definitions: in particular, in include/arch/mips/machine/, there are endian.h and _limits.h, which will need the appropriate definitions for MIPS architecture, and I'm not sufficiently confident w/ my integer constants to freehand these

the former is just a comment; the latter thing still needs doing

If you can tell me exactly what you need (or just paste links to specific lines in the file or something) I can tell you what to use and/or where to get the bits from. Hopefully the comments I posted today will take care of much of it.
