I'm experiencing this same issue using TightVNC, it would be nice to access
this from
outside my wifi range

It is definitely possible to make this work--

You have to be able to access your computer via the general internet.

One way is to open the VNC port (usually 5900) in your router, directing it to
your
PC running the VNC server. Then you set android VNC to connect to your WAN ip
address. This will work but the VNC password is not well protected, so it's a
bit of
a security risk. I use the method below.

Open the SSH port (22) in your router, directing it to your PC. Run an SSH
server on
your PC. Use the ConnectBot Android app on your phone to connect to your WAN ip
address. Set up a tunnel of port 5900 through the SSH connection. Set
androidVNC to
connect to port 5900 on localhost. Then your VNC connection is safely
encrypted by SSH.

This is not really a bug, but I'll leave the issue up for further reference.

Same for me, but actually i know what im doing ,)
port 5901 is forwarded through firewal and then router up to one of the hosts
in local network. connection works flawless from inside on wifi, but no go from
3G, although client authenticates, vnc server (it son windows :/) icon changes
colour, but vnc client is not able to succesfully download first frame
