Does GW2 have 0% GPU usage the entire time, or is it just low GPU usage because GW2 is freezing? If your system is capable of switching GPUs, GW2 may not be using the dedicated GPU. You can configure Gw2-64.exe to always use the GPU under your GPU's control software.
If you launch Gw2-64.exe directly after encountering this problem, and it doesn't have this problem, does launching again using Gw2Launcher still have the problem? If you close Gw2Launcher after opening the launcher and before playing, is it still a problem? The only difference would be the Local.dat file being used (assuming it's not using the default file), and security software being extra suspicious of an unknown program launching a newly downloaded program.
Hi Healix! Thanks for answers me so quick. Right now I'm on my laptop with no way to switch GPU's sadly. When it comes to the GPU usage it goes anywhere from 6% to 30%s usually but when the freeze happens it drops to 0. It seems like its not pulling from my GPU properly. When trying other games I have zero issues, so I doubt its my card. So far today (seeing that I'm still at work) I updated the game on my laptop and used gw2launcher to play and had the issues, so of course I swapped to the normal launcher. As you mention though, after reading what you said I reopened gw2launcher and tried two of my account's and had no issues, Granted I was using the normal launcher for about 3 hours. My anti virus software hasn't given any issues with gw2launcher but I'll look into it more just incase.
I haven't updated my home PC yet, but when I get home I will try updating then closing gw2launcher, launching things normally then reopening gw2launcher and seeing if I still have the problem.
Update for ya, got home and updated the client first then did it through GW2launcher and had no issues. Then the patch that dropped at 5:35pm EST messed everything up. Updated in the same order and have the freezing issue again. Took a break for about 40 mins and tried again with GW2launcher and its still dropping to 0% but not as much or hardly at all. Any ideas?
GW2 having any GPU usage means it's using the expected GPU. The usage dropping is because it's waiting on something, whether it be a hardware bottleneck or other software being prioritized.
Windows 10 and up will try to optimize gaming, which can cause stuttering. Under the settings for Windows, you'll find gaming and graphics settings. Try disabling game mode and GPU scheduling, which will require a restart. You can also manually configure GW2 to always be high performance here.
Under the settings for Gw2Launcher > General > Windows, enable either one of the options for taskbar grouping. This changes Gw2Launcher to launch GW2 through Windows, instead of directly, which may change how it's treated.
If you have the problem again, make a new account in Gw2Launcher, only give it a name, then click OK to be prompted on which files to use. Choose to share the default files. Right click this account > Selected > Launch (normal). When launched this way using the default files, it's like launching GW2 directly, and if you close Gw2Launcher after launching, it's practically identical.
Sorry for posting after so many days, family issue is all. So far after the newest patch and turning game mode off in windows I don't have any issues at the moment. Both the PC and laptop didn't have GPU scheduling enabled, so here's hoping it was game mode. If the next patch comes around or somehow the issue comes back, I'll try making a new account on Gw2Launcher. I'll keep you posted Healix. Thank you for the help!
Hey all hope you can help me out. Every time the game has been patched after the new xpac, whenever I use Gw2Laucher to play on any of my accounts the game freezes every 10-15 seconds. I noticed the game was using 0% of my GPU and fluctuates on both my desktop and my laptop. Odd part is, is if I sleep or restart my PCs the issue goes away. None of this happens if I use the regular gw2 launcher. Unsure if this is a hardware problem or not, seeing that its on two different machines. Any ideas?
