Lackeys can't be generated in Arena #1206

Already hotfixed, but documenting for future reference in case it comes up again. After Patch 14.4 and the ensuing Arena rotation, people found that Rise of Shadows cards no longer generated Lackeys. https://us.forums.blizzard.com/en/hearthstone/t/lackey-not-added-to-hand-bug/7295

Drafted evil conscripter in priest arena since new Rise of the Mech patch, traded it into an enemy minion, it died and didn’t add a lackey to my hand.

All lackey cards seem to be bugged in arena right now. I just played EVIL Cable Rat and didn’t get a lackey as well.

Yep. Didn´t get any lackeys from Evil Genius (interacting with Spark elemental)

We are in the process of rolling out a fix. There was an Arena issue with card generating effects not granting the minion cards into your hand. This does not occur in any game mode outside of Arena.

The fix appears to be in effect, as reports of this have nearly stopped.

(Cable Rat played, Battlecry animated but no Lackey generated. Devs added Lackeys to the hand manually to compensate for the rest of the stream.)

This was presumably due to the new tools that allow Blizzard to control random generation pools more precisely than a simple Standard/Wild toggle. These are used as part of the new Arena rotation to restrict generation effects to the same pool of cards that deck construction uses. I'm excited about this actually! Discover and random card generation will only pull from the cards in the sets available to draft. We didn't originally have the tech to do this but our engineers are wizards and conjured up a solution in time. Thanks, wizard engineers!

The tools were also likely utilized on the reveal stream to ensure that random generation effects did not reveal other cards from the set. They were presumably configured in a way that excluded all the Lackeys from the random generation pool, so the relevant cards couldn't create anything. Even though Rise of Shadows was still in the Arena rotation, it seems probable that the issue in 14.4 was caused by a similar oversight in configuring the card pools.

Another issue like this has presented itself in Arena in the past. When Arena was switched to Standard format back in Patch 7.1, there was no purge of incomplete Arena runs, as commonly accompanies Arena changes today. http://imgur.com/a/HkFyn Played against an old deck with wild cards, and Mechanical Yeti dropped no Spare Parts although its deathrattle "effect" shows up in the sidebar. Interesting bug/interaction regarding wild cards in standard.

Same problem with primal talisman and wicked witchdoctor. All three are in my arena deck :laughing: Seems as it affects all ‘summon random totem’ effects.

In dual class arena, Wicked Witchdoctor did not summon a totem when I played it and then a regular coin, even tried Sinister Strike from Rogue and still didn’t summon a totem.
