Space Vines - Hatchet/Welder destroy-times #117

Open Jacquar opened 9 years ago

Jacquar commented 9 years ago

Abstract: Space vines are a thing. I quite like them as a low-danger nonsentient antagonistic event. I want to work on them later and give them some variance, including more dangerous versions that can grow through pipes and ventilation, and hurt people.

Welder is one way to get rid of them, but should have a risk of causing a fire if they're matured.

Hatchet, though, is an instakill that can wipe them out so fast it's really rather unrealistic, and turns them into a meaningless low-grade task of one minute to clear out.

Would prefer poison and more advanced tools were the only fast way to do it. Ideally, space vines should die rather than vanish, and become a crumbled, dead floor decal like dirt or blood, but that cannot be cleaned with spray. Anyway, that's for future - chat on Skype about this if the reader is interested in exploring this further.*

Task:

If you can do it, low priority, make the hatchet and welder take 2.50 sec to remove a vine, with a 'begins chopping at the vine' or 'begins burning the vine' but no 'finishes' message.

in terms of poison, would the weed killer from hydro work? or should the chemist need to make something with more oomph?

Poison likely refers to weedkiller and anything else which has been working. Point being, not mundane tools.

2.5 seconds might be a bit extreme; the issues is that it has absolutely no delay at present. I will note, however, that a single individual working on vines is more likely going to need about 30 minutes to clear central primary halls. It takes a good long while, without helping a goat or using a scythe, and half of your time goes to alt-clicking to select the vine.
