It might be a good idea, but everyone will have to spend some money on the usernames.

Namecoin-based ID provider? - polar posted on Nov 01, 2017 ZeroNet Namecoin-based DNS works well, why not ID provider?

nofish ━ on Nov 01, 2017 It could be possible, but namecoin registrations are expiring after ~1year, which is pretty unfortunate in user registrations.

polar ━ on Nov 02, 2017 I don't care expiring. I want a decentralized name service, whatever how it is hard to use. This is also important to stop the blaming about centralized name service.

p2p ━ on Nov 02, 2017 if you consider blockchain, there is a P2P microblogging called twister, which uses blockchain for user name registry. In theory, you can build a ID provider which directly uses data of twister blockchain, so that people who register to twister can also use same name in ZeroNet. Unlike Namecoin-based ID provider, twister-based one does not charge coins to register, and names do not expire.

sksn ━ on Nov 02, 2017 Twister is not safe to a 51% attack. It uses bitcoin-like PoW. But PoW works only with strong economic motivation only for cryptocurrencies with big market capitalization. For small chains with low hashrate the 51% attack is not theoretical it becomes practical.

sksn ━ on Nov 02, 2017 IMO, a custom ethereum contract will be good enough for both users and zites names. It can be deployed to Ethereum or Ethereum Classic network. Or even better it is possible to create an independent private/proof-of-authority chain with this (Proof of Authority Chains) Partity feature. Unlike to Namecoin or Twister, Parity has a fast synchronization feature and can work as a lite client.

My opinion, all this crypto currency mood is a trap, a massive trap for a one world currency based on nothing.
