Rocky 8: Undo distro-specific installs for htop, mc, and samtools?

Since ncurses-compat-libs is now installed on Rocky 8, do the following have to be distro-specific installs?

• [x] emacs
  • [x] Not possible; emacs: error while loading shared libraries: libpng15.so.15: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
• [x] htop
• [x] mc
• [x] samtools
• [x] tmux
• [x] byobu
