The official 5e rules for starting gold work as follows:
You either select from the starting equipment suggested by your class, along with any items offered by your background, or...
"If you forgo this starting equipment, as well as the items offered by your background, you start with 5d4 x 10 gp to buy your equipment."
Currently, there is no straightforward way to include any extra gold offered by a selected background if the player chooses not to roll for their starting gold and equipment.
I suggest a toggleable option on the Equipment tab to choose between rolling for gold (which would then be subtracted from) and selecting starting gear (without subtracting from total)
