EOS Overlay Having Issue Installing #3109

Describe the bug

Error message when installing the EOS Overlay, and Fall Guys not being able to run because of it.

Even with being on 2.9.2, and using the most up-to-date version of Legendary (0.20.33 as of the time of writing this), I am still experiencing this error.

It only happens when I go to install it, but it looks like it installs correctly.

However, I am getting either a crash or a "files missing" warning in Fall Guys. I have also tried repairing the files for it and

Steps to reproduce

  1. Go to Settings -> Advanced
  2. Click on "Install" under EOS Overlay
  3. See error screenshot.

Expected behavior

For the overlay to install and games to run correctly.

This is a specific issue with FallGuys and not with Heroic. Join our discord and search for FallGuys in the support section, it was discussed many times (I think you have to install the EOS version that comes with the game and not the one heroic installs, but check discord since I might be wrong)

@arielj the error isn't related to Fall Guys, that was a side effect of the error.

@ThomasHineXYZ the Files missing error in Fall Guys is a really well known problem of that game in particular, it has specific steps to make it work, check in our discord, there's a lot of information there

Sorry I now see the last image better, I'll reopen this but I don't know if it's a Heroic error, looks like a Legendary error

you seem to be using a custom binary for legendary in Downloads/legendary.exe, do you still have the error if you use the binary that we ship with heroic?

also, what happens if you run XDG_CONFIG_HOME=C:\Users\Thomas\AppData\Roaming\heroic\legendaryConfig D:\Downloads\legendary(1).exe eos-overlay install -y --path C:\Users\Thomas\AppData\Roaming\heroic\tools\eos_overlay in a command line?

and what happens if you run D:\Downloads\legendary(1).exe eos-overlay install -y --path C:\Users\Thomas\AppData\Roaming\heroic\tools\eos_overlay ?

(those commands are taken from the logs you share)

you seem to be using a custom binary for legendary in Downloads/legendary.exe, do you still have the error if you use the binary that we ship with heroic?

Yes, I do. I downloaded the newest binary from the Legendary GitHub page to see if that resolves it.

For further testing though, I'll put it back to what is shipped with Heroic 2.9.2

With going back to the 0.20.32 that is shipped with Heroic 2.9.2, I still get errors, however, they are a little different than what is shown in my last comment.

I wonder if installing the EOS-Overlay from the Fall Guys folder is borking with the install command.

Although that wouldn't explain the issue prior to me doing that recommended fix from Reddit.

Hmmm that's what we show in the logs as the command that gets executed, maybe we are calling the command incorrectly? I don't have widows to check that
