repeated about 6 times per second.
doing "Verify and Repair" does not help. It runs to completion, but behavior is still the same.
Doing full uninstall of the game, then reinstall / redownload fixed the issue.
I was able to run winecfg
, winetricks
for vcrun2022, and to launch the game on the first try.
This is exactly what I have done earlier, with only difference that first time I used app image, and in second try I used precompiled tar.xz to run heroic.
When I had this issue, the problem seemed to be changing from wine-ge to proton-ge without deleting the prefix.
Deleting the prefix should be enough to fix this (no need to reinstall the game).
When the prefix is corrupted there's not much we can do (maybe we could detect this infinite loop and kill it? not sure)
Closing this since the workaround is just deleting the prefix and this is not that common.
Describe the bug
I had Alan Wake 2 working just fine few days ago.
I run from live distro, and rebooted (well crashed system for unrelated reason), so after each reboot I need to redownload this and that.
Got latest heroic 2.10.0 (tested initially with AppImage, then with precompiled tar.gz - same effect).
Installing wine and game works, I was able to start winetricks to install vcrun2022, but now I cannot run the game or winecfg either.
It just spins forever:
No feedback in UI, other than spinning icon, showing me it tries to start something.
Ok, so lets click X to stop it.
ok, no dice.
Lets kill heroic:
