Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition (GOG) not properly installing with Heroic. #3486

Describe the bug

After the game has completed downloading and installing the game from GOG.com, when attempting to launch it the launcher shows up with an 'Install' option only. When clicking install it says it cannot find the installation or the CD.

I'm unsure what the issue is, I also have the EPIC GAMES Fallout 3 Gamer of the Year version as well and when installing that via Heroic it works perfectly fine. It is only the GOG version that fails to install properly and I'm not sure why.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition GOG version
  2. Launch the game
  3. Launcher claims the game is not installed and can not be found.

Expected behavior

Game should play properly.

Downloaded and attempted an installation of FO3 again using the appimage from the link you provided. The same issue still occurs unfortunately.

Make sure to delete the wine prefix, so setup scripts kick in.

The prefix does not exist before installation. I even tried again and specified a non-default path to make sure it created a new one. Problem still occurs.
Or am I misunderstanding you and there is another prefix I need to remove?

Wine Prefix is set to ~/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition in your case. Make sure to remove that directory and run game using AppImage from main branch

I did exactly that and it still does not work. Must be something on my end. I will try resetting Heroic's data and trying again.

Sure. I reset the heroic data and deleted all of Heroics folder, fresh install. Error still occurs:

Yes it's correct. Are you sure you deleted /home/superuser/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition as instructed? Maybe try wine-ge instead, changing wine versions should also trigger installation steps?

Yes I'm 100% certain I deleted that prefix before hand. I tried WINE-GE-PROTON-8-25 this time and I'm getting the same result. Unsure what the problem is as the issue still occurs. Thank you for the help.

I assume you mean the .script file inside the GOG directory that some GOG games contain upon installation, yes? Is there any way I can run that script manually in the mean time? It appears to be a json file but unsure how to execute these commands automatically.

Wanted to reply and say this is now fixed. I completely removed any trace of Heroic on my machine, deleting ~/.config/heroic, and any cache files in .cache. Downloaded the provided appimage with the fix and started over from scratch and it now works correctly.
The problem seemed to be some lingering settings or behaviors from the previous Heroic version.
