Tonly video mode this supports is 8-bit
you can not change it to 16-bit or 32-bit.

From what I've seen in the source code, it's hard-coded to be 8bit. The 
original Doom
was also 8bit.

My bad, I was using the new version of prboom that just came out in November 8 
2008
(first new release in two years!)in the new version they added high color modes
