Appreciate the details Alex, we're looking into Android connection problems now. TBD if this will be solved along with it or this is a separate issue.
We have been able to gather a lot more data points on this. Seems mostly related to Samsung devices. We are actively investigating but don't have a timetable yet.
We've identified the problem and have POC solution that needs to be heavily tested. No timetable for rollout yet.
Solution is in development and hoping for delivery next week.
Team made more progress today. Hoping to start testing by end of this week.
The community has found temporary workarounds to this problem (manually adding wifi network); however, we are still working on more permanent fix with WiFi direct. The system is in place but it is not very user friendly yet. We are iterating on functionality and design, expecting driving tests to begin next week.
We were not happy with our Wi-Fi Direct solution after some experimentation. It had two pitfalls:
We have been working on another solution that appears promising. It is a programmatic approach to the manual workaround found by the community. It uses existing Wi-Fi connection so it is less risky. Once we feel confident about automatic reconnections to the network and do some UI clean up then we can release to the community.
Unfortunately this means the fix needs to get pushed out again.
Initial results with new solution is promising. Moving into testing phase.
